I'm very satisfied with this eeepc. What I like are the combination of small format (9", 1 kg) and the full functionality with the SSD drive. The small keyboard is just big enough, but it does require a short getting used to. The laptop came with Linux, which runs great. However I was forced to reinstall after a failed upgrade which stopped the system from rebooting.

The kit arrived very promptly, and I was very impressed with the small size and good design.
I have an old Sony Vaio on which I loaded Ubuntu Linux. This was easy to use, and I wrongly assumed the 901's version would be as good.
The 901 worked straight out of the box until I tried to connect to our secure wireless network. My old Sony laptop had linked immediately. Not so the Asus.
Having tried for a month to get it to connect with any secure network, I gave up and sent it back. I have to say that the Asus helpdesk was useless. They did not seem to recognise the 'Pending' problem that I found mentioned on many websites (including their own), together with solutions (none of which seemed to be possible to apply with the device configuration).
I am really disappointed, and if I had the time to learn a new operating system might have persevered, but I do expect kit to work properly and if (as one often finds with Windows) there is a problem or niggle, the it should be easily fixed.
Had the 901 not had this problem I am not sure that its quite limited functionality and storage would have made it worthwhile. SSD technology has yet to produce anything of significant size, and the convergence of standard high-capacity laptops and their move into the netbook world really makes it a bit redundant.
We bought a Dell Inspiron running XP - no problem at all! And a 160Gb drive for very little more. Sorry Asus, you have to do better than that!

I have to say that I have never participated in a review before and I very seldom complain but I have been hugely disappointed with this product. My web book is based on a linux O.S. I have found the product to be painfully slow in terms of booting up, opening any of the pre-loaded applications, accessing the internet. Yes the product does look sleek. Yes the keys are very small but I was aware that was the case when I bought it and happy to live with this. The netbook constantly crashes as well. If I could send this back for a refund then I would. I would not recommend this product. I thought that maybe there was a fault but according to the technical support team there is not.

Bought this machine for my grandson he is extremely pleased with it and so am I. I shall probably get one for myself very soon.

I can only reinforce what others have said, that Linux it is very smooth and easy to run,and this model has very good battery life. I have found it lasted me 5 hours and 20 minutes when skipping between browsing and typing own notes, playing with the webcam, audio recorder, PIM (Personal instant manager), and more. Linux was a pleasant surprise to me, despite what others have written, I am a bit phobic about getting to grips with new technology and programs. After my typical 10 minutes anxt on receiving something new of this nature, and admittedly-receiving help to link with my network, the rest is lovely to work with and explore. I thought I would want to download XP Home, but now don't even want to.
For those who DO want XP, you get more for your money with the Linux version, and XP is compatible, as others have already said, and you will still have considerably more memory left after installing it. The machine itself has a very nice feel and look to it. Sleek, yet solid yet light.
