Simple in design and appearance, the ASUS 1000H is a great little computer.
I use mine alongside my PC for the internet mainly and typing up documents - it's so light and just the right size between portable and being too tiny to use the keyboard effectively.
The design is very sleek and battery life impressive. My friend has one of the newer models and used side by side, my battery lasts longer! It also seems faster but perhaps that's just me...
Maybe ASUS are losing it with the newer models but get yourself one of these while you still can.

brilliant, took it to austrailia with me worked great with wireless connection pitty they coudnt fit a writer in it but the battery life is fantastic got about seven hours out of it but it all depends on how you use it but battery life on the whole is very good glad i bought it.

I had one of these delivered yesterday, and am finding it quick, light, quiet and very easy to use. It found my wireless network within seconds of booting up and logged on first time. I have also used it around the house and had no problem when I am away from the router.
Was slightly worried I wouldn't be able to touch type on it, but am having no problems. Also the screen is large enough and bright enough to allow my 40+ eyes to read it easily!
Overall a sexy little machine which is doing exactly what I want it to and which I am looking forward to being able to take out and about, given that I can carry it easily in one hand.
Recommended for anyone looking for real mobile computing power.

Had this for a week now and very happy with my choice. It's a little larger than the others, but this is more than compensated for by the keyboard size and battery life. I would not like to type on anything smaller. Agree with other reviewers that the right shift key is annoyingly placed/sized, but otherwise keyboard is fine. Have found the track-pad to be more than usable, despite some complaints elsewhere.
Battery life has got to be what lifts the Asus above the competition - what's the point of having a portable if you're tied to a wall-socket?
XP runs just fine - optimised with fast boot-up/shut-down. I much prefer it over Linux since I can install some favourite apps such as iTunes and rent movies/ transfer video content with ease.
Highly recommended.

I was originally going to wait it out for the new S101, however a £100 price difference no way reflects the value for money. I have had this laptop now for about a month (bought from PCWORLD with staff discount for £315, not from Amazon). Just one thing to verify from reading other reviews - it has 3 USB 2.0 ports, not two, however if you are using this a truely portable laptop how you could use all three im not too sure. The fan underneath when I first purchased this did seem quite noisy, only really noticeable in a compeltely silent room, however is to be expected from a mechanical drive anyway. Since then the noise has seemed to become less noticeable, either that or I have just become used to it! Have been using it at college for about 4 hours every day, charging over night without any problems. Have the backlight pretty much as low as I can get it without any trouble, even using on a public bus proved no extra hassle as the keyboard is more than comfortable enough to use. I have just purchased a RAM upgrade from crucial.com for £23 which I highly recommend doing, especially if, like me you want to run lots of software such as the latest Office 2007 suite. The online storage is a bit of a fuss - the software wasn't pre loaded on the laptop, however subscription is only included for the first year, and with the 80GB hard drive and the SD card slot, I have never really seen the need to use it. Instead I use Microsoft's Live Mesh, again which I highly recommend as it has 5GB of free online storage for anyone with a .net passport (msn account) and works like an online briefcase, allowing access to ANY files anywhere from an internet connected computer, as well as syncronisation features so you work offline aswell.
Overall I am very pleased with the quality and value for money this laptop represents. The only thing I could possible see for improvement would be to upgrade to a SATA SSD in the future once prices have fallen. For anyone who is considering such an upgrade, the 1000H is the perfect model to get as the EEE's with solid states built in use PCI-E connectors which are much slower than if you were to upgrade with a SATA connected one!
Also for note if anyone needs, I have been running Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Expression Web) all with no problems at all, as well as Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition and some World of Warcraft (though at an average 12 fps, I tend to use my desktop machine instead).
For general internet based tasks and email, I have found myself using this more than my desktop PC, super fast boot times and excellent wi-fi signal / coverage. Bluetooth, webcam, and built in stero mic are nice extras though haven't really had a need to use them (other than inital testing when I first purchased it)
